Our new cattery
The new cattery is done and the cats are in! It is much larger than our original one and much closer to the house for ease of care. It houses all the Ragdolls and also provides space for six purpose-built kittening pens. A huge central space, with shutters over mesh at either end, is shared by all the girls and occasionally opened to the boys, each of whom has his own large pen with attached indoor enclosure. As with the old cattery, all indoor pens are heated and each cat has access to a pressure-activated heating pad. The lay-out provides greater opportunity for direct sight and smell contact between studs and queens. Although we've made a start with lots of shelves, scratching posts and climbing furniture, we have even grander plans to keep everyone amused. So far, all the girls and boys seem happy with the new arrangement and we are simply over the moon.
Construction notes
The exterior was completed (from planning process right through to construction) by local company First For Fencing, based at 100 Aker Wood near Melrose in the Scottish Borders. See our links page for further details and a link.
All interior kitting out, including lining, custom building of kittening pens and storage spaces was done by Sandy Young, whose craftsmanship and attention to detail have made this cattery not only functional but truly a beautiful structure in so many ways. His contact details are as follows:
